Kapok is an organic fiber derived from the seed pods of the kapok tree that grows wild in tropical rainforests. The high air content of the kapok fiber means that your kapok product is incredibly good at regulating temperature, as the air-filled fiber structure creates a thermoregulating effect. The excess heat from the body will therefore be passed through the kapok fiber. The temperature-regulating effect is further enhanced by kapoks ability not to absorb water. Instead, the kapok fiber transports the moisture away from the body through its fibers. You will therefore experience that your kapok product will remain dry throughout the night. Kapoks water repellent property is one of two reasons why kapok is 100% allergy friendly. Since the kapok fiber does not absorb moisture, house dust mites cannot live in the fiber. House dust mites need a humid environment to live. Kapok is therefore great for house dust allergies. Kapok also contains a bitter substance that makes the quilt resistant to other mites and bacteria.
