It is very individual what we experience as a good pillow. Parents will often choose a pillow for their child based on what they themselve prefer to sleep with. So the best junior pillow for your particular child must be seen in the light of your own preferences in relation to materials, breathability, chemical-free and allergy-friendly.
A good pillow can do wonders for how well your child sleeps. Children need up to 11 hours of sleep, depending on the child's age, and it is therefore important that they get optimal support and comfort. A good night's sleep promotes the child's health and development, because it is at night that the brain is allowed to relax and rest from the many impressions of the day. It is at night, the child produces the largest amount of growth hormone, so it is also at night that the children grow the most.
At Cocoon Company you will find our junior pillows in 3 of the amazing natural materials we also use for our popular adult pillows. Therefore, you can find exactly the same quality for your child as for yourself. The junior pillows are just a little smaller than an adult pillow.
By choosing a junior pillow in kapok, you get an extremely breathable pillow, made from 100% organic, plant-based materials. Our kapok is harvested from organic kapok trees that grow in the free wild nature. You thus get a product that is completely untreated and pure, so that all nature's own properties are preserved. We do not use any pesticides or sprays for our kapok. Therefore, a kapok pillow for children is also one of the cleanest and most allergy-friendly things you can choose. The kapok fiber contains a natural bitter substance where house dust mites, mold and many bacteria do not thrive in this environment. For that reason, the material is very hypoallergenic to sleep with.
At the same time, the fiber consists of 80% air voids, which makes it extremely breathable and temperature-regulating. A kapok pillow for children is therefore very good for children who sweat at night, because it allows heat and sweat to be transported away from the fibers of the pillow, so that it does not feel wet and clammy to sleep on. It gives your child a more restful night's sleep without waking up due to sweat.

You may know the great feeling of dressing your child in woolen clothes. The child will always be well-tempered and kept dry from sweat when wearing wool. You can benefit from the same good properties by choosing a wool junior pillow for your child.
Our junior pillows with wool are made from 100% organic merino wool, from sheep that live in the mountains. The extremely changing weather conditions in the mountains cause the sheep to develop extra long wool. We can card the long wool fibers into an ultra-soft and airy Merino wool. The airiness of the fibers creates great breathability and the ability to moderate your child's body temperature so well.
The child will release a great deal of body heat through the head and therefore it is important that the heat can escape from the pillow. Otherwise, the child will start to sweat and the pillow will become wet. It can be really disturbing for the night's sleep and lead to interrupted sleep, which ultimately disturbs the child's well-being.

If you choose a junior pillow with our unique maize/corn fiber filling, you will get a pillow that feels like the fiber pillows you may already know. But the big difference lies in the fact that our corn fibers are 100% biodegradable. It is produced completely without the addition of substances harmful to your health or the enviroment. Our maize pillows come from the leftover material from corn production. We process the natural raw material into a soft fiber, but without adding synthetic substances. And that makes the whole difference between a synthetic fiber pillow and a natural fiber pillow.

In Denmark, a junior pillow measures 40x45cm exactly like baby pillows, but has more filling and is thus slightly higher. The baby pillow that your child is now growing out of is completely flat compared to a junior pillow. The advantage is that you can continue to use the same bedding for the junior pillow as you used for the baby pillow.
When your child is 2 years old, they can start sleeping with a junior pillow. The child uses this pillow until approx. 6 years of age. The recommendation is a rule of thumb and you must of course always look at your child and assess if it is right for him/her to switch to a junior pillow.
The junior pillow must be soft and able to support the child's neck and shoulders during the night. Some children prefer to switch to a flat adult pillow at the age of 4, because it takes up a little more space in the bed. So if the child moves a lot during sleep, it can be very nice that the pillow is a little bigger.
Developing allergies typically occurs via a mixture of both genetics and environment. It can be inherited in our genes, whether we have a predisposition to develop allergies, but it can also be due to influences from the environment we surround ourselves in. For example, if we are exposed to one allergen a lot, there is a greater risk of us developing a real allergy to the substance in question. It can, for example, be house dust mites in the home, perfume, dyes, etc.
By choosing an organic pillow for your child, you reduce the risk of your child developing allergies, because they simply do not contain the same harmful chemicals that can cause allergies for the child. At the same time, the chemical-free materials also ensure that the child does not inhale harmful fumes from the pillow when sleeping.
