Why choose a kapok duvet?
Most people can nod in recognition to the experience of a feather or down duvet getting really warm during the night. And you therefore have to remove the duvet a bit or stick out your leg during the night to cool down a little. This is because feathers and downs are incredibly good at insulating. The ability to insulate really well is perfect during the cold months, when we want to retain the heat as much as possible. It's really nice, right up to the point where you've warmed up the duvet and mattress to body temperature. After this, the body needs to be able to get rid of the excess heat and moisture that the body creates. Unfortunately, this is where feathers and down often fall short, due to their great insulating properties. A kapok duvet is great for regulating heat and moisture around the body due to the lightness and structure of the kapok fiber, which allows heat and moisture to be transported through the duvet, and away from the body. A kapok duvet is therefore particularly suitable for you, who tend to get hot at night.
Kapok is a natural fiber that grows on the kapok tree Cebia pentranda in the tropical rainforests of South and Central America, India and in the western part of Africa. You can partially compare kapok with cotton, but kapok differs by being much airier than cotton. The kapok fiber contains 80% air and is thus 8 times lighter than cotton, making it the lightest natural fiber in the world. The high air content in the kapok fiber is what makes it incredibly temperature regulating and breathable.
When you sleep with a kapok duvet, you will therefore find that the duvet adapts to your body temperature. A kapok duvet is therefore one of the best things to sleep with if you have problems with sweating or simply find a normal down duvet too warm and insulating. A kapok quilt also differs by being water repellent. Kapok is covered by a natural layer of wax around each individual silky fiber. This means that the kapok duvet will not absorb the moisture and sweat that the body emits during the night. Instead, the moisture is transported away from the body through the fiber's many air-filled cavities. You will therefore find that a kapok duvet stays nice and dry throughout the night.
A Cocoon kapok quilt can be washed at 60 °C - however, we recommend washing at 40 °C to protect the duvet as much as possible and for a more environmentally friendly cleaning. For the best possible result, it is also recommended to use a tumble dryer to dry the product.
REMEMBER TO READ EXTENDED WASHING INSTRUCTIONS.
Upon receiving the duvet In order to preserve the fiber structure and the properties of the fiber as best as possible, we recommend that you only wash your kapok duvet if it is strictly necessary. Your Cocoon kapok duvet has not been dyed, treated with chemicals, nor contains any synthetic materials, and you therefore do not need to wash your new kapok duvet before use.
In addition, kapok contains a natural bitter substance, which makes the fiber and thus the kapok duvet antibacterial and resistant to house dust mites. It is therefore not necessary to wash the kapok duvet, unless there has been a major accident in the bed. In the case of minor stains, we recommend that you simply spot clean the duvet, in order to spare the duvet as much as possible.
We recommend airing the kapok quilt approx. once a month or as needed to maintain the structure of your duvet and ensure a healthy and fresh sleeping environment. If you need to wash your kapok duvet - then follow our extended washing instructions, which you will also find at the bottom of website.
